Music

Intent:
Through the teaching of Music we want children to develop an appreciation of and for music by listening and appraising a range of different styles, genres, historical periods, traditions, composers and musicians.  Through these pieces of music we will ensure children gain and develop a progressive understanding of the interrelated dimensions of music (pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture and structure).  With this knowledge base, children will have opportunity to create music using their voices, tuned and un-tuned instruments, gradually developing the skills of composition and an understanding of musical notes and formal notation.

Implementation:
Mrs Suffling is our Music Co-ordinator. At Kingsmoor, Music is taught through 'Expressive Arts and Design' within the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in Ladybirds and Rabbits (Nursery and Reception):

Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage

We teach the Music National Curriculum in Red Kites and Owls (Years 1 to 4):

Music Programmes of Study Key Stages 1 and 2

From the EYFS to Year 4, we use the Oak Academy to teach our Music curriculum however this is supplemented with specialist teachers throughout the year who come in and deliver 10 week singing programmes to all classes.

The following table shows which Music topics are taught throughout the

Impact:
All children are assessed in Music by their teachers, on a termly basis.  Mrs Suffling then analyses the attainment and progress of the whole school in this area.  This information informs future teaching and learning in Music.
